Moldovan table tennis debuts at the Olympics. Vladislav Ursu is ready to start

Today, for the first time in history, Moldovan table tennis will be represented at the Olympic Games. In the preliminary round Vladislav Ursu meets the American Kanak Jha. The 23-year-old master of the small racket told SPORTS.MD that he is happy to be at such a major tournament, and shared his expectations.

“The best table tennis players in the world have come to Paris. It is an honour for me to be in that company and to represent Moldova. It is a wonderful chance to gain priceless experience and to learn something new. I want to give my word: I will do everything I can to perform at the very top of my ability,” said the 23-year-old.

While this is Vladislav Ursu's first Olympics, it is his opponent's third. Kanak Jha was once considered a prodigy of table tennis. He was the first American to win a table tennis medal at the Youth Olympic Games, and he made his senior Olympic debut at Rio de Janeiro in 2016 at the age of 16, the youngest member of the American team there. In Rio he finished 65th in the singles, and at the next Games, in Tokyo, he came ninth with the American team.
