WORLD TABLE TENNIS DAY 2025

On 19 April, in the table tennis hall in the village of Avdarma (Gagauzia), a tournament for World Table Tennis Day 2025 was held for younger players and veterans. It brought together 59 participants, among them players aged between 20 and 39 as well as the veterans' age groups.
On 23 April the table tennis hall in Avdarma (Gagauzia) gathered 73 participants, boys and girls in the U-19, U-15, U-13 and U-11 groups, for the tournament for World Table Tennis Day 2025. The tournament was held under the patronage of the International Table Tennis Federation Foundation (ITTF FOUNDATION) and the Table Tennis Federation of the Republic of Moldova. This was its third edition. Table tennis enthusiasts from Israel also took part in our event.
World Table Tennis Day was first celebrated in 2015. The date originally chosen was 6 April, timed to coincide with the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. In 2023, however, the date was moved to 23 April, in honour of the birthday of Ivor Montagu, the celebrated British table tennis figure, organiser of the first World Table Tennis Championship (1926) and the first president of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
The festive opening of both tournaments was attended by the head of the Main Directorate of Youth and Sport of Gagauzia, Mr Dragoi Veaceslav. The president of the Table Tennis Federation of the Republic of Moldova, Mr Ion Sarandi, also congratulated the participants on World Table Tennis Day 2025.
All the participants received shirts with the World Table Tennis Day 2025 emblem. The athletes and coaches were provided with desserts, lunch and drinking water. The tournament was held in a friendly and exciting atmosphere, a celebration of sport — of our favourite sport. The winners and medallists received cups, medals, diplomas and cash prizes.
